Diminish Imperfections in Your Vehicle’s Paintwork

Paint correction is the process of removing imperfections in the clear coat of a vehicle, such as swirl marks, scratches, and oxidation, to restore the original shine and finish of the clear coat. This is typically done using specialized tools and techniques, such as polishing and buffing.

With the use of paint correction services, you can turn back the clock on those abrasion-causing incidents. Scratches and other problems can and probably will collect on your car's coat over the course of its lifetime.  But, paint correction can be used to remove these imperfections and restore your car's exterior. This is especially beneficial if your car has been exposed to time, the elements, and various contaminants.

Commonly Asked Questions About Paint Correction

  • When should paint correction be done?

Paint correction should typically only be done when the paint has become dull or has been damaged by scratches or swirls. Additionally, if you are looking to apply a ceramic coating or paint protection film,  paint correction should be done before the application. This helps create a smooth and uniform paint surface for optimal protection and shine.

  • How long does paint correction take?

The length of time for paint correction depends on several factors, including the type of paint imperfection being addressed, the size of the surface area that needs to be corrected, and the type of paint correction methods being used. Generally, paint correction can range from one to several hours. It is recommended that paint correction be conducted by a professional detailer who has experience with paint correction techniques and products.

  • What are the benefits of paint correction?

Paint correction is an effective way to improve the appearance of paint on a vehicle. It can bring out an intense shine, remove imperfections, and create a uniform paint surface. Additionally, paint correction can help protect the paint from further damage and make cleaning your car easier.

  • Is paint correction the same as paint protection?

No. Paint correction is the process of restoring paint to its original condition by removing imperfections such as scratches, swirls, and oxidation in your vehicle’s clear coat. Paint protection is a type of coating that is applied after paint correction to protect paint from environmental factors such as UV rays and contaminants.

  • How much does paint correction cost?

The cost of paint correction services can vary depending on the severity of the paint damage and size of the area being corrected. Generally, paint correction services can range from several hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars. It is important to discuss pricing with your detailer before starting any paint correction work.

The Yanks Auto Detail Paint Correction Process

Vehicle Inspection

The paint correction process always starts with an inspection of the paintwork. This will give us a better understanding of the paint condition and allow us to plan out our approach and select the correct tools for the job. During this stage, we look at things such as paint depth, scratches, swirls and other paint defects.

Surface Preparation

We then proceed to prepare the paintwork for the paint correction process. This is a very important stage and involves cleaning the paint to remove any contaminants from the surface.  This is done by first decontaminating the paintwork using gentle but effective products, followed by a hand wash to remove grime and debris.

Paint Correction

The paint correction stage involves the use of machine polishers to refine the paintwork and restore it to its best condition. This can involve light paint defect removal such as light scratches and swirls, deeper paint defect removal such as paint oxidation and heavy scratch repair, or simply a polishing procedure. Depending on the condition of the paintwork, we may use multiple stages of paint correction with varying levels of aggressiveness in order to achieve the desired result.

Protection & Maintenance (Recommended)

Once we have finished our paint correction process, we highly recommend that you choose a form of protection for your vehicle. Whether that is a ceramic coating or a paint protection film,  it is important to maintain the paintwork on a regular basis in order to keep it looking its best. We can also provide advice and guidance on how to properly maintain your paintwork so that you can keep it looking like new for years to come.
